Sports fashion has "come a long way"

The sports fashion and outdoor wear industry has "come a long way" since the days when men donned ironed trousers and women covered up with long, woollen skirts while camping, clothes that rendered winter adventures almost impossible.

This is according to Lenore Perconti, writing for the Daily Evergreen, who observed that improved clothing design and technology has transformed outdoor activities, putting this down to synthetic fabrics.

"Multiple types of materials serve purposes such as moisture-wicking, water-proofing, light-weight and heat retaining even when wet," she commented.

Ms Perconti went on to note that the demographic with the best outdoor and sports fashion sense is those who enjoy snowboarding and skiing.

She stated that these people have "always been on top of fashion" while on the piste.

Sports fashion is also hitting the catwalks nowadays, an indication of how far the industry has been taken. At Florence's Pitti Uomo trade show in January, for example, Lars Nilsson will be launching his new collection, Mr Nils, which features such clothing.
