New designer project launched

06/11/2009

A new project aimed at supporting the fashion industry's rising stars across the world has been launched by the British Fashion Council (BFC) and British Vogue magazine in the 25th anniversary year of London Fashion Week.

Fashion recruiters may be particularly interested in the outcome of the initiative, named the BFC Vogue Designer Fashion Fund, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Under the scheme, one British-based designer will be given £200,000 as well as mentoring support to help them create an international reputation.

Candidates need to have an established business, a sound media profile, international stockists and be based in the UK.

Chairman of the BFC Harold Tillman said: "Designer talent is the lifeblood of the fashion industry. Now is the time for the industry to directly support this talent."

Formed in 1983, the BFC has worked towards showcasing British designers while developing London's reputation as a major figure in the industry, with London Fashion Week now a globally recognised event.
