Fashion world mourns loss of Joseph Ettedgui

22/03/2010

The founder of the Joseph fashion label has died at the age of 72, leading industry experts to pay emotional tributes.

Joseph Ettedgui opened more than 20 stores both overseas and in the UK after establishing the label back in 1972.

Nicholas Foulkes, author of Last of the Dandies, said: "I believe that Joseph will come to be regarded as one of the handful of men who shaped London taste in the last quarter of the century and who helped to establish chic London today."

Big fashion names paying tribute to the late designer included Miucca Prada, Christian Lacroix and John Richmond.

This marks another loss for the fashion industry, as top designer Alexander McQueen passed away earlier this year.

His studios, however, will continue to operate in tribute to the late designer, with his final, incomplete collection already having been showcased in Paris.
