01/04/2010

London-based designer Erdem Moralioglu has become the first ever winner of the British Fashion Council (BFC)/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund.

The 30-year-old's victory included a £200,000 grant which will be used to produce luxury goods, as well as gaining access to high-profile mentors and a tailored programme to assist him in achieving his aims over the next 12 months.

Mr Moralioglu explained: "I am thrilled to be the winner of the BFC Vogue Fashion Fund. It is an honour.

"The prize will help us to take our business to the next level. It is so integral for us to be showing in London."

BFC chairman Harold Tillman, who launched the fund in September 2008, added that Mr Moralioglu's "excellent design credentials" made him the top candidate for the award.
The Montreal-born designer launched his own label in 2005 and soon went on to win the Swarovski British Fashion Council Fashion Enterprise Award in 2007 for his bold and unusual colour combinations and intricate attention to detail.
