Burberry to take on India market

British luxury goods label Burberry has announced plans to target the Indian fashion market in a new collaboration with retailer Genesis Colours.


According to the Economic Times, the brand hopes to receive approval by the government in order to forward the initiative, with chief executive Angela Ahrendts saying she sees the same potential for growth in the area as in China, where the label has 44 outlets.


"Obviously, India is on a different curve," she admitted. "We only have about two stores there now."


Items on sale will include both mens and womenswear, sportswear, children's clothes, raincoats and accessories, such as watches and bags. A line of cosmetics will also be available.


In related news, Burberry recently introduced its own social media website - The Art of the Trench - in which fans of the luxury fashion label can log on with photographs of themselves in their Burberry couture, the best of which will be displayed on the page.
